Longuet-Higgins Prize是纪念一位英国人，这个人真是个超级牛人。网上搜了一下他的经历，涉猎范围相当广泛啊： Hugh Christopher Longuet-Higgins (1923-2004)，英国理论化学家。Longuet-Higgins在量子化学领域有许多出色的贡献。在统计物理领域，Longuet-Higgins同样作出了出色的贡献。1967年后，Longuet-Higgins的研究兴趣转向人工智能和认知科学，在这一领域，他的贡献同样显著。（我在维基百科上面看到一句话： In 1981 he introduced the essential matrix to the computer vision community in a paper which also included the eight-point algorithm for the estimation of this matrix. 呵呵，1981年他都快60岁了啊！！！）
什么是essential matrix？？

essential matrix是表示图像间位置关系的矩阵，是个3by3的矩阵，其中一个是up to scale的，所以如果至少有8个已知的两图像的对应点，就可以求得图像间的关系的。具体上网查下。。。@cvchina
原来本质矩阵和八点算法是这个人搞的，早就听说过，没想到60岁的人还能做出这么牛的东西。

这次很搞笑的是，发best paper的时候，获奖者竟然不在现场，自己出去happy了……大概是连自己都没想到会获奖。在他做oral的时候，做low rank matrix 的John Wright给他提问，他答得也很一般

太搞了吧，cv界也是很搞的啊！不是狂套理论，就是狂拼实验。真正的好算法，十年出一个就不错了。

有点言重了，呵呵。我比较崇尚实用，如果为了解决实际问题而去套用理论，这个绝对无可厚非。
